Help me, Help my Pet - Raindrop for Animals
By Jan Bowers
When you choose to share your life with a cat, dog, horse, or other four-legged soul, their
emotions often become a catalyst for your own. Their wagging tail brings a grin to your face; a set
of kneading paws does more to calm you than an hour-long massage ever could; a soft nose
searching for a carrot is all it takes to wash away the stress of a very long day.
The flip side is that their discomfort affects us as well. Is there anything worse than
watching a loving, loyal companion suffer from bone and joint pain, a torn ligament, or nervous
dysfunction? Most painful are those relationships in which an animal assumes the negative
emotions of its owner, as well as the physical manifestations of those negative emotions. Have you
ever noticed that when you have a headache, your pet seems to lag, too, or that when you are
anxious they join you in nervousness, sharing with you tight muscles and impinged joints?
Luckily there is a therapeutic option capable of speeding your pet’s healing, at the same time
offering you a chance to care for them and strengthening your relationship in the process—
Raindrop Technique. An increasing number of owners are turning to Raindrop to relieve arthritis,
abolish colds and respiratory illness, address viral and bacterial infection, and ease exhaustion and
other afflictions.
Raindrop is a procedure that includes the application of therapeutic-grade essential oils in a
precise order and manner to the neck, back and feet; massage through a series of specific
techniques for the spinal muscles, and the application of moist heat through a warm compress.
The application process for animals is similar to that for humans, with a few adaptations:
The animal should be allowed to sit, lay down, or sprawl as they feel comfortable; the
practitioner must be prepared to work around their position, and gently shift the animal if
necessary.
There are appropriate times during Raindrop to add oils that may be of benefit to your animal.
If the animal has never received Raindrop, however, it is recommended to stick to the basic
regimen.
Amount of oil must be tailored to size and breed.
Remember that cats are extremely sensitive due to their small size, and metabolize oils
differently than other animals. Consult with a qualified practitioner prior to working with cats.
Oils should be diluted prior to working with small dogs.
If you have a high-spirited, jittery, or nervous animal, apply calming blends like Peace and
Calming or Valor to yourself prior to approaching them to begin Raindrop. Approach slowly
and allow them several minutes to inhale the essential oils from your skin.
As with humans, all owners are permitted to administer Raindrop to their animals in the
privacy of their home. Should you choose to pursue Raindrop as a healing technique, remember
that your pet is allowing you a great privilege in trusting you to help them. Approach them calmly, with a positive state of mind. Be careful not to facilitate
Raindrop when you are anxious, stressed, nervous, or depressed,
or the changes are good that your pet will channel those emotions
through your touch.
In addition to their role in the Raindrop sequence, each of
these oils can be employed multiple ways in your animal’s natural
care routine. Some common applications include:
Valor— encourage realignment of joints; spinal conditions
Thyme - overcome exhaustion; protect against infectious diseases
Oregano - guttural pouch disease; heaves; fungal infection;
Lyme disease; ringworm; strangles
Cypress - founder; calming and centering; wounds
Wintergreen - strained muscles; encourage regeneration of
bone tissues; inflammation; ringbone
Marjoram - headache; fungal infections; fluid retention
Basil - help dispel allergies; throat and lung infections; insect
bites; fights mental fatigue
Peppermint—colic; reduce fever; heat stroke; nausea and
upset stomach
Aroma Siez—overworked muscles; calm inflammation; saddle
sores; spinal conditions
Want to give a little back to the four-legged soul who has done so
much for you? Take a few deep breaths, grab the appropriate oils,
and head toward your four-legged family member to better their
health and your relationship in one easy application of Raindrop.
